The Meaning of Blue Roses:
As you may have guessed, the meaning of Blue Roses is tied to the mysterious, and the reason for that is, ahem, no mystery. Botanists and gardeners all over the world have literally been searching for Blue Roses for centuries -- they still are, in fact, and at present no native Blue Roses have ever been found. Indeed, an ancient Chinese legend even states that finding a Blue Rose is like finding a genie -- the finder is granted three wishes and eternal youth as an added bonus!
In the Victorian language of flowers as well as Japanese mythology, meanwhile, Blue Roses are said to represent attainment of the impossible. Since that which is impossible cannot by definition be attained, the Blue Rose also represents unwavering hope and life's deepest mysteries. To the Victorians and the Japanese, this mystery was best represented by true love and by love at first sight. It does, after all, sometimes seem impossible when we find ourselves overtaken by the full power of deep and abiding love.
Red roses may be the de facto color for anniversaries and Valentine's day, but we invite you to break with tradition and give a single Blue Rose instead. If you've experienced love so powerful that it feels impossible -- so strong that its very presence in your life is a joyful mystery -- then giving a Blue Rose to that special someone with an attached explanation is quite possibly the most romantic gift you could ever give!
