Animal Crackers
1/2 Cup rolled oats
3/4 Cup flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 Cup butter
2 tsp honey
1/4 Cup buttermilk
Grind oats until fine using blender. Stir together oats, flour, baking soda & salt. Cut in the butter using pastry blender or fingers until butter lumps are smaller than peas. Stir in buttermilk and honey to form a stiff dough. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 400 degrees 5-7 minutes til edges are slightly browned. Cool on wire racks.
Chocolate Cutout Cookies
1-1/2 Cups all-purpose flour
3/4 Cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1-1/4 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
3/4 Cup butter, softened
1-1/4 Cups white sugar
1 egg
Stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt; set aside. Cream together butter and sugar til smooth. Beat in the egg. Gradually stir in sifted ingredients to form soft dough. Divide dough into 2 pieces, flatten and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate 2 hours. Roll dough 1/8" thick. Cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 375 degrees 8 to 10 minutes.
Cinnamon Dough Ornaments Fabulous for tree decorating, but don't try to eat them!
1 Cup ground cinnamon
4 T white glue
3/4 to 1 Cup water
Mix cinnamon and glue. Gradually add water. Stir until a ball of dough forms. Roll out 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutter; poke a hole with a straw. Let dry at room temperature 1-2 days, turning over ever 6-8 hours. Decorate as desired. Hang with ribbon for colorful cording.
Cream butter & sugar til fluffy. Add eggs & vanilla, mix well. Mix dry ingredients, add gradually to butter mixture til flour is completely incorporated and forms dough. Chill 2 hours. Roll to 1/8" thick, cut with cookie cutter. Bake on parchment paper-lined baking sheet at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
